where does this stand? How has to approve this? Has anyone considered the huge amount of time it will take to educate our food service managers?

These rules were passed by the State Board of Health in June and now will be heading to JCAR. When they are published is anyone's guess. There is a 1 year implementation date after adoption built into the rules to facilitate education of Food Operators and Managers as well as LHD staff.

Do you seriously think a one year implementation date is sufficient? I would suggest we send out a mass email to all lhd's and let them know what is happening. I would think at a minimum, there should be one year to educate lhd's and then one year to pass this along to businesses. In our area it will require a significant educational outreach to reach all faciltiies.

Our region has lost its fdd supervisor and doss not meet regularly so perhaps we can send out a mass email to all lhd's to assure they understand what is happening. Perhaps I am the only one who is not up to speed on this.

I know idph will say they have contacted out "professional groups" and it is up to us to alert and educate members so they can understand the situation well enough respond. In their mind, they have done their job.

What has IEHA done to pass this information along?

Thanks for your thoughts and answers!

We are starting now with staff training having them do some pre-training on FDAs Compliance Wire. They have training on the 8 chapters of the FDA Code.

We know we have to work with our software vendor, luckily they claim to have several other counties nationwide that utilize the FDA code for inspections. so they think this wont be a horrific process.

Donnie any idea why they haven't published in JCAR yet?

how will State deal with the youth camp inspections done by IDPH staff? Will the State offer training for these?

No idea Chris. There are training modules on the FDA code being planned at the Food Symposium for LHD staff in September. Industry is way ahead of us regarding the FDA food Code since the FDA Code has already been implemented in many parts of the country. Pat has discussed this at IEHA Educational trainings, there was a 2 day FDA training in springfield, and I have posted extensively here. The rules being adopted is not going to happen prior the Spring of 2016

Implementation of the FDA code will impact LHD staff more than the industry. They will see a new inspection form, grading tool, new personnel requirements for illness, and really the rest is mostly what we are doing now with some minor things
